So, how did this open-air art gallery come into existence? The Wynwood Walls Miami saw the limelight because of the vision of one art patron, Tony Goldman. Let us look at how Tony Goldman converted the once a warehouse to an outdoor art gallery. Back in 1970’s Wynwood Walls was just an area of old warehouses. In the early 2000s, Tony Goldman saw the potential of converting these warehouses into a cultural oasis. He was the man behind reviving SoHo Beach and the South beach, and he had the vision to revive this faded neighborhood too. It all began with the opening of Art Basel 2009 when the open-air gallery started to blossom with art. What began with a few murals to beautify the art morphed, turned into one of the biggest street art galleries of the city. There is nothing that is even vaguely similar to this in Miami. The walls feature more than 40 murals by many of the world’s most acclaimed artists including contributions from artists like Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf, Faile, Date farmers, Ryan Maguinness and Linen. The best part is the neighborhood is pedestrian-friendly so that you can happily stroll around the outdoor gallery.Also, the admission is free, so feel free to visit the places as many times as you like.

Caledonia Curry is a Brooklyn based artists whose art appears in the name of Swoon. Her artwork can be found on buildings worldwide making a permanent and transient home in many prominent places including the New York’s Museum of Modern Art, The Tate Modern, The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Sao Paulo Museum of Art. Her art has made a permanent place here on the Wynwood Walls, Miami. In the year 2009, she collaborated with Ben Wolf and David Ellis to create a masterpiece and was invited back in the year 2014 for the Wynwood Walls Art of Collaboration’ program. This time she created an intricate wheat-pasted mural called the “Dawn and Gemma”.
